about

Talking Sheet is a website meant for visually impaired students deprived of online education and covers Maths, Science, English and Computer in interesting voiceover and fun-filled worksheets. A visit to the blind school as a part of a school trip and seeing the challenges the visually impaired face in their day-to-day lives inspired Gaurika to do something useful for them. The young innovator says the pandemic has especially affected the education of lakhs of visually impaired children in India. Her project “Talking Sheets” is aimed at helping them in their education through a friendly online tool. “Creating the content was the most exciting part of the journey,” she says, adding she did not face any difficult moment. She sees “Talking Sheets” expanding in the coming years and being used by visually impaired children in India and overseas. Her favourite innovator is Arvind Gupta, who makes innovative and educational toys using household items. When she feels uninspired, Gaurika says she reads books by Sudha Murthy and Ruskin Bond and Mahatma Gandhi’s autobiography “The story of my experiments with truth.” While her startup’s focus right now is on working for the visually impaired, the Vadodara girl says she would also like to work on problems such as pollution and waste management. Saving drying rivers is another challenge she wants to help address. Gaurika believes more children can be encouraged to become innovators by making them aware of the problems around us and motivating them to think for potential solutions. She says the journey with CIF has been very informative and encouraging and helped in shaping her ideas.
